Mark A. Itkin

-

Mark A. Itkin, 78, husband of Harriet (Kargman) Itkin for 54 years, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 31, 2022. He was the son of Matilda (Tillye) Itkin Levine and Jacob ( Jack) Itkin.

Mark was president of the family business, Itkin’s Decorators, formally on Main Street Middletown. He retired after working 44 years. He was a former member of the Middletown Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Middletown Retail Bureau. He was an honorary member of the Portland Exchange Club where he served as President and Chairman for many years of the booth for the Portland Fair, and was co-founder of the Exchange Club Golf Tournament. Mark was a lifelong member of Congregation Adath Israel Synagogue, where in the past, he served as Vice President; and was an intricate member on various committees.

Mark was an avid golfer, golfing weekly with the exchange club until he physically wasn’t able. He loved playing cards with the guys and golf trips with his friends.

He loved to travel to Aruba with his wife. It was their “special place”. He made friends everywhere he went.

He was a storyteller, often embellishing, but a good storyteller none the less. He loved to laugh and crack jokes, even joking until the end. Making people laugh, put a smile on his face. What made him happiest, was being ‘Poppy’ to Josh and Ellie, his pride and joy, spending time with them.

Besides his wife, he leaves his beloved daughter and son-in-law Sara and Daniel Hanna; his grandchildren, Joshua Hanna and Elizabeth (Ellie) Hanna; his sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Norman Fidel, his brother and sister-in-law, Harris and Leslie Itkin, sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and Jeff Schwartz, brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Helen Levine. He also leaves his sister-in-law and her husband, Gail and Howard Sohn and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Jason.

The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to Dr. David Miner, the nurses, techs, and entire staff of Davita Dialysis in Middletown for their exceptional care.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, April 3rd at 1:00 pm in Adath Israel Cemetery, 714 Pine Street, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jason B.
