The Minnesota Lynx waived former UConn women’s basketball guard Crystal Dangerfield ahead of the Thursday cut deadline.

Dangerfield was the 2020 WNBA Rookie of the Year after being selected by the Lynx with the No. 16 overall pick in the draft.

Last season, she averaged 7.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 20.1 minutes per game. Dangerfield appeared in all but one of the team’s 32 games, including 10 starts. Her 22 points on May 20 against Seattle were the most from a player coming off the bench for the franchise since 2012 (Candice Wiggins, 25). She also set career highs in assists (seven at Phoenix on June 30) and rebounds (seven against Connecticut on May 30).

In 2020, Dangerfield led Minnesota with 16.2 points and 3.6 assists. She started 19 of the team’s 21 games and was the franchise’s fifth player to win Rookie of the Year. Her 92.9 freethrow percentage was No. 3 in the league and broke Minnesota’s single-season record of 89.9 percent set in 2004 (Katie Smith).

Dangerfield finished her UConn career with 1,480 points and 599 assists, helping to lead the team to a 136-8 overall record over her four years.

Minnesota also waived Layshia Clarendon, Yvonne Turner, Rennia Davis, Kayla Jones and Hannah Sjerven Tuesday.
