The Minnesota Lynx signed former UConn women’s basketball guard Evina Westbrook to a hardship contract Thursday.

While no details of the contract were released per team policy, Westbrook will be available to play for Minnesota until the team is able to return players from injuries and/or overseas competition.

The Lynx have 15 players listed on their roster, including former UConn star Napheesa Collier. She remains out because she is due to give birth this month. Eight-year vet guard Kayla McBride remains overseas while forward Natalie Achonwa is out indefinitely with a hamstring strain injury she suffered in a game on Sunday.

With Damiris Dantas (right foot injury) and Odyssey Sims also not with the team, Minnesota signed Rennia Davis also to a hardship contract on May 10.

Westbrook was drafted 21st overall by Seattle in last month’s draft. She was one of two rookies left standing after initial cuts in training camp, but was waived on the second to last day on May 4.

The Salem, Ore. native played in both of Seattle’s preseason games, recording a total of 18 points, five rebounds and three assists.

The Lynx waived fellow former Husky and 2020 WNBA Rookie of the Year Crystal Dangerfield on May 3.

Minnesota will next play Chicago on May 14 at Targent Center at 8 p.m. ET. — the last time Westbrook played at Target Center was on April 3 in the national championship game.
