Milford woman charged with DUI after Stratford head-on crash

- By Daniel Tepfer

BRIDGEPORT — A Milford woman had a blood/alcohol level over four times the legal limit when she crashed head-on into another car at a Stratford intersection, police said.

Amy Lyn Corris, 45, of Cardinal Drive, was already awaiting trial for allegedly leaving the scene of another crash when police said, she crashed her Nissan Pathfinder head-on into a Lexus sedan at the intersection of Main Street and Warner Hill Road on July 9.

Stratford police said when officers got to the scene people were out of their cars and pointing up Warner Hill Road and yelling that the driver who caused the crash had fled.

Police said the Lexus had heavy front-end damage and its four occupants were lying outside the car in a grassy area. They said the female driver, who complained of multiple injuries, was taken to the hospital.

In the meantime, police said officers pursued the Pathfinder, eventually pulling it over in Shelton.

Police said as officers approached the SUV they could see smoke coming from the engine area and both the driver and front passenger airbags were deployed.

However, police said the driver of the Pathfinder, identified as Corris, acted as though nothing wrong had happened. When an officer asked her what had gone on, police said she replied, “Nothing.”

They said Corris smelled strongly of alcohol and failed a field sobriety test. Police said she was subsequently found to have a blood/alcohol content of .348.

She was charged with driving under the influence, evading responsibility and failure to grant the right of way. She was released after posting $500 pending arraignment in Superior Court here on July 25.

According to court records, Corris was previously arrested for evading responsibility and is scheduled to be in state Superior Court in Milford on Aug. 3.
