Phyllis C. Kaufman passed away peacefully at The Hearth at Tunxis on February 10, 2023. Born Phyllis Barbara Cooperberg, on August 17th, 1935, in Philadelph­ia, PA, she was the child of Gertrude (Weinstein) and Milton Cooperberg.

She is survived by her three children and their families: Stephen C. (Judith) of Falmouth, MA, Adam S. (Rebecca) of Westerly, RI, and Jonathan M. (Gretchen) of Alvin, TX. She adored her grandchild­ren, Jennifer, Suzanne, Katherine, Isaac, Hannah, and Jacob, who will all miss their Bubbie. She is also survived by her brother Barry Cooperberg and her three nephews, Michael, David, and Mark and their families. Her late sister-in-law, Barbara, was a great friend and source of support.

Phyllis was a 1953 graduate of Olney High School and a 1957 graduate of Temple University achieving a bachelor’s degree in teaching.

After marrying and moving to Clinton, CT in 1960, Phyllis became active in the community and known for her skills as a bridge player and instructor. In 1972, the family moved to Madison, CT. She was founding member of Temple Beth Tikvah and was a tireless fundraiser for TBT and the local chapter of Hadassah.

Phyllis was an avid reader all her life and volunteere­d at the E. C. Scranton Public Library in Madison for many years. Mom, Bubbie, Sister, Aunt Phyllis, Phyl will be remembered for her unending supply of unconditio­nal love for her family and friends. She was a dedicated fan of Jeopardy and preferred a good Macoun apple or anything lemon.

The family would like to thank Dr. Mary Scheinman for providing Phyllis with many years of compassion­ate care, the staff at The Hearth at Tunxis where she has been living since 2016 and the Vitas Healthcare staff for their care during her last few weeks. Phyllis would also want us to recognize specifical­ly the many years of friendship from Judy Merriam and Rabbi Hesch Sommer, and her friends from The Hearth, Sandy, Carol, Nancy and Bob.

Arrangemen­ts are being handled by the Robert E. Shure & Son Funeral Home, New Haven. Graveside services at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 13 at the Temple Beth Tikvah section of Beaverbroo­k Cemetery, Route 145, Clinton, CT.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Temple Beth Tikvah Building Fund or the E. C. Scranton Public Library.
