Margaret (Moniz) Ribera

Margaret “Peggy” Mary (Moniz) Ribera, 76, of Durham, beloved wife of John “Jack” P. Ribera for 54 years, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Hartford Hospital. Born in Newport, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Joseph, Sr., and Mary (Stepp) Moniz.

Peggy was a loving wife, mother, grandma, sister, and friend who always put the needs of others before her own. She was a caring and thoughtful person who greeted everyone with a big smile and a warm hug, and she also loved to listen and offer advice. Her happiest moments were when she was with her family, especially her grandchildren, who adored her dearly. Peggy loved people; nobody was a stranger to her.

Along with her husband, Peggy is survived by her daughter, Kelly Ribera-Lee ( John) of Madison, CT; two grandchildren, Derek J. Lee and Jessica J. Lee, both of Madison and three sisters, Paula L. Malloy (John) of Portsmouth, RI, Diane G. Ribera (Robert) of Cromwell, CT and Bruce A. Moniz (Tara) of Newport, RI.

Besides her parents, Peggy was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph F. Moniz, Jr., and Warren A. “Buster” Moniz and two sisters, Natalie J. “Joanne” Owens, and Linda A. Moniz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 28th at 10:30 am at Notre Dame Church, 272 Main Street, Durham. Burial will follow in the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. Family and friends may call on Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown.
