Patricia (Ewald) Schmaltz Patricia (Ewald) Schmaltz, 98, of Cromwell, wife of the late George J. Schmaltz, passed peacefully on Friday, February 24, 2023, at Pilgrim Manor. Born in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Margaret (Brede) Ewald.

Patricia was a lifelong resident of Cromwell and parishione­r of Saint John Church, where she was baptized, married George in 1947, and where her children were baptized. Patricia worked for Travelers Insurance in the Tower Building starting right after high school during World War II. In the 70s and 80’s she worked at Bielefield Elementary School in Middletown as a paraprofes­sional under the VISTA Program. She volunteere­d with the Friends of the Cromwell Belden Public Library, the Cromwell Historical Society, and Saint John Church.

Patricia is survived by a son, Jeffrey E. Schmaltz and his wife Susan of South Dakota; two daughters, Judith Schmaltz Crowley and her husband Michael of Smithfield,

Rhode Island, and Janet P. Schmaltz of Rocky Hill; three grandchild­ren, Margaret Crowley, Abigail Titmas, and Caitlin Zaino, and two step-grandchild­ren, William Sperry and Yvette Goins, several great-grandchild­ren, many nieces and nephews and her beloved cousin, Sally Ann Brown. Patricia is predecease­d by her brother, Robert G. Ewald, and sister, Margaret Larson.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Covenant Living for their loving care of Patricia over the past 7 years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 2 at 10:30 am at Saint John Church, 5 Saint John Court, Cromwell. Burial will follow in the State Veterans Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Thursday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 am at the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main Street, Cromwell.
