-

Jean (Lyons) Tarca, 98, passed away peacefully at her home in Branford, Connecticut surrounded by her children. Jean was born on August 26, 1924, in Meriden, CT to the late Daniel A. and Marie (Sarrazin) Lyons. She was the second youngest of 10 children, and last surviving sibling of the closely-knit Lyons family.

Married to the late Fred Tarca Sr., they made their home in Meriden, Berlin, and Quonochontaug, Rhode Island. After her husband’s passing in 1999, Jean remained in Rhode Island, and later moved to Cheshire and Branford, Connecticut.

During her lifetime Jean was an active member of many organizations where she made her home, including the Westerly YMCA, Quonochontaug Yacht Club, and Cheshire Senior Center. However, her lifelong priorities and interests were always her children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren with whom she immensely adored.

Jean is survived by her four children, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren: daughter Joan (Patrick) Alix of Tampa, FL; sons, Fred (Mary) Tarca of Branford, CT, Paul (Anne) Tarca of Littleton, MA, and Dan (Michelle) Tarca of Cheshire, CT.

Her surviving grandchildren are: Brendon (Bernadette) Alix of Stamford, CT, Daren (Andrea) Alix of Tampa, FL, Gregory (Lauren) Tarca of Hoboken, NJ, Mallory ( Jordan) Gunzy of Fairfield, CT, Jim (Chelsea) Tarca of Stamford, CT, Shane Tarca of Somerville, MA., Devon Tarca of Littleton, MA, and John Tarca of Cheshire, CT.

Her surviving greatgrandchildren are: Liadan, Mila, and Teagan Alix, Kayleigh, Emma and Brayden Alix, Connor and Avery Tarca, Jack and Quinn Gunzy.

As a life-long devout Catholic and woman of strong faith, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 11:00 AM in Saint John Bosco Parish at St. Mary Church, 731 Main Street Branford, CT. A private burial will take place in Rhode Island at a later date. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers or contributions, the family would ask those to extend kindness, courtesy and laughter to someone in need, all in Jean’s memory.
