Concert association to host Mozart’s opera ‘Don Giovanni’ June 4
MIDDLETOWN — The Greater Middletown Concert Association is bringing Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” opera, staged by the Connecticut Lyric Opera in collaboration with Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra to the Santo Fragilio Performing Arts Center June 4.
The misadventures of the original Don Juan are featured in “Don Giovanni,” which is considered to be one of the greatest opera works in the classic repertoire, according to a press release. The “gripping production” will be under the music direction of Maestro Adrian Sylveen and the stage direction of Giorgio Lalow.
This professional production features singers who have been seen at The Met, European opera houses and beyond.
In the opera, Don Giovanni is “charming with a scandalous reputation,” the statement said. “His already-lengthy list of conquests is getting longer until he tries to force an unsuspecting Donna Anna. Will he blaze a path to his own destruction in a single day?”
The opera features Mozart’s “stunning” lyricism, “genius” recitatives and “unforgettable arias,” all accompanied by a seasoned orchestra, the concert association said. The concert, to be performed in Italian with English supertitles, will take place June 4 at 4 p.m. at the Santo Fragilio center at Middletown High School, 200 LaRosa Lane.
Tickets, $35, are available online at the Greater Middletown Concert Association website at greatermiddletownconcerts.org. For information, call 860343-7555 or 860-347-4887.
Partial funding comes from the by the Middletown Commission on the Arts.
