Icy Cameron, age 91, of New Haven, Connecticu­t departed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, June 21, 2023. Icy was born in Springfiel­d, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica on March 27, 1932, to the late Alfred Cameron and Beatrice Edwards. She was the seventh of eight children. She attended the Springfiel­d “All Age” school in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. In her later years, she relocated to Porus, Manchester and was a successful businesswo­man. She was the owner and manager of the Kansas City Club and Restaurant and Love Bird Club and Restaurant in Manchester. She enjoyed providing lunches for young children and those in need. Aunty, as she was affectiona­tely called, was an excellent cook and enjoyed feeding those in the community. Everyone will remember Aunty as being friendly and always willing to lend a helping hand to everyone who needed it. She was a true beacon of light in her community, her church, and shined brightly wherever she went.

Icy migrated to the United States in 1983 and settled in Connecticu­t. She worked as a nurse’s aide, which included private duty work. She continued her love for sewing and made beautiful gowns for women in the greater Hartford area. In addition, Icy managed a homebased day care business. In the community, she served as a dedicated member of Bethel AME Church.

Icy is survived by her sister, Sally Riggins of Hamden CT; niece, Jackie Sappleton; nephews, Mark (Schanna) Reid, Anthony Reid, Daniel McCown; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, families, and friends. In addition to her parents, Icy was predecease­d by her brothers, Edward Cameron, Reuben Cameron, Earl Cameron, and sisters, Ina Reid and Daisy Cameron.

Icy’s family will celebrate her life at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 14, 2023, at Bethel AME Church, 255 Goffe Street, New Haven, CT. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Beaverdale Memorial Park, 90 Pine Rock Avenue, New Haven, CT 06515. Services by Howard K. Hill Funeral Services, 1287 Chapel Street, New Haven, CT 06511.
