Lynne Diane Shapiro passed away peacefully in the early morning on January 31, 2024. Lynne was predeceased by her parents, Marjorie and Bernard Shapiro, and survived by her two brothers David (Kathryn) Shapiro, Gary (Margaret) Shapiro, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Lynne was born on February 3,1947 in New Haven and lived in West Haven, CT until 1966, New York City from 1968 - 1990, New Haven from 1992 - 2015, and San Diego from 2015 - 2024.

Lynne was passionate about education, and she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Russell Sage College where she was elected to Who's Who among Colleges and Universities for 1967-1968. Lynne also received an Expert Professional Research Certification from the Marketing Research Association, a Management Practices Professional Certificate from NYU, and a Master of Urban Studies / Planning from Southern CT State University.

Lynne had a successful marketing research career that spanned more than three decades with her final position being a strategic study marketing research senior analytical manager. Lynne was an avid and talented writer since her days as the editor-in-chief of The Rostrum at West Haven High School. Lynne had been in the media with selected articles and letters to the editor as well as “woman on the street” TV news interviews all but one year since she graduated from college in 1968.

Lynne was an ardent activist and advocate throughout her life which could be seen through her work in both large movements and in the everyday. Lynne was a 1970-1984 Women's Liberation

Era Feminist event organizer and publicist. She self-published the 1979 Write on Woman Writer's Guide to Women's Alternate Press and Who's Who Among Emerging Leaders. Lynne was also a mass transit and pedestrian safety advocate and co-founder of the 1994-1996 Vision for A Greater New Haven Transportation Citizens Action Group. Lynne successfully petitioned Senator Harp to change an early morning bus start time to better serve the Metro-North trains and she was personally thanked by Senator Billy Ciotto for being the only person who took transit all the way to his Connecticut General Assembly Transportation Committee. Lynne organized the inaugural email list for the community at Joseph Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale University and she worked with other tenants at her New Haven apartment complex to rehabilitate the swimming pool and communal area.

In Lynne's words, “I am a person who does smaller things here and there as

I go along”. Lynne loved taking photography walks and would create beautiful collages and albums for her loved ones. She especially loved to share photos of the rainbows overhead in San Diego and never missed an opportunity for a Zoom call to cheer one up with the sunset from her balcony. Her Conservative Egalitarian Jewish faith was very important to her, and she had many friends in the Jewish community. She was always a loving supporter of her nieces and nephews and attended many sports events, performances, and celebrations. Her loved ones miss her dearly.

Private services will be held and, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be given to the Joseph Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale University. The Robert E.
