Things for state food lovers to do in March
Experts are predicting an early spring, and Connecticut’s food scene is starting to bloom. This month, foodies can learn about nature at events around foraging and maple sugaring, or they can explore sugar through a cookie-decorating class, just in time for Easter. St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and wine dinners are just a few other options for food lovers to kick off spring.
Spring Cookie Decorating Bethel
Broken Symmetry is hosting this March 27 event, at 6 p.m., with Sugar Blooms cookie bakery. Guests will be given six cookies, along with icing, supplies and instruction. The cost of the class also includes one drink.
Tickets are $60 and available through Sugar Blooms.
First County Bank Maple Sugar Fest Sundays
Stamford
Stamford Museum & Nature Center will host this event on March 3 and 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to show how it makes its own line of maple syrup. It includes demonstrations of Native, colonial and modern sugaring techniques, as well as farm animals, a farm market, face painting, crafts and food trucks.
Admission is $12 per person for members of the museum and $22 per person for nonmembers. Children under 2 are admitted for free.
The 3 Foragers: Spring Wild Plant Foraging
Guilford
A Connecticut family that calls itself The 3 Foragers will lead this March 7 talk at the Guilford Free Library. Guests
will learn about how to find, identify, sustainably collect and prepare wild mushrooms and plants around New England.
Admission is free, but advance registration is requested.
Champagne Leclerc Briant Dinner
Greenwich
To celebrate its reopening after a recent renovation, L’Escale retaurant in Greenwich is hosting this March 7 dinner. Guests will get a seven-course meal, and five of the courses will be paired with different Champagnes by Leclerc Briant.

Eastern CT Maple Festival
Mansfield
On March 9-10, from 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m., EO Smith High School will host the Eastern CT Maple Festival dedicated to all things maple. Guests can learn about maple sugaring and learn about its history and how to cook with it. There will also be crafts for kids and carnival games. Vendors will be on site selling maple-flavored treats, as well as jewelry, soap, candles and more.
This event is free.
Latin Food Taste Norwalk
On March 10, from 1 to 4 p.m., local Latin restaurants will share their food at the American Legion post at 60 County St. Proceeds from the event go to Ready for School Peru, a local nonprofit that makes donations to help schoolchildren in rural areas of Andean Peru get
school clothes and supplies.

Pig & Oyster Dinner Mystic
This March 10 dinner is hosted by 85th Day Food Community at Oyster Club. The dinner is held by the restaurant group behind restaurants Engine Room, The Port of Call and Oyster Club. Now in its 13th year, this dinner is built around local pork and oysters. The fivecourse dinner comes with a welcome cocktail and wine pairings.
The meal is $125 per person, plus gratuity. Reservations are available on Resy.
The Sushi Class Newtown

Aquila’s Nest Vineyard will host a March 16 sushi-rolling workshop taught by husbandwife duo The Sushi Class. Students will be given ingredients, materials and instructions on how to make one vegetarian roll and one California roll. The class starts at 12 p.m. and lasts two hours.
Tickets are $40 and do not include any drinks. Aquila’s Nest has a $10 drink minimum for guests in the class. Tickets are available from The Sushi Class.
Shenanigans Irish Festival Branford
Stony Creek Brewery, with its newly launched Stony Creek Eats, will host its sixth annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration on March 16, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The festivities will include games, live music and dancing.
Tickets are $20 in advance on Eventbrite and $25 at the door.
Spring Wine Dinner with Hudson Table

This March 21 dinner at Wakeman Town Farm will have dinner and drinks from the team at Hudson Table, from 7 to 9 p.m. Hors d’ouevres and a three-course dinner will be paired with wines.

From March 22-29, restaurants across Litchfield will offer discounted prix-fixe menus. The 20 restaurants participating in the second annual Litchfield Restaurant Week will offer a set menu at $25, $35 or $45. Restaurants including Marketplace Tavern, Materia Ristorante and Litchfield Distillery will offer special menus for lunch, dinner or both.
