Hartford Yard Goats add new $5 parking options

HARTFORD — Hartford’s apartment boom will cost fans of the local minor league baseball team one of Dunkin’ Park’s most convenient parking lots in the coming season, but the baseball team announced Monday it will offer a parking nearby at $5 per spot.

The property directly across Main Street from the Yard Goats’ home, long used as a 300-space parking lot, is now being dug up as part of the next phase of developer Randy Salvatore’s North Crossing project. Bordered by Pleasant and Trumbull streets, the uneven 5-acre lot known as Parcel B is slated to house up to 1,000 new apartments, retail, and amenity space. As of a few weeks ago, several large mounds of dirt had risen on the Pleasant Street side of the lot as Salvatore began excavation for the project. Salvatore’s firm, RMS Companies, recently completed building 147 new apartments inside the former Hartford Hilton.

To make up for the lost spots, the Yard Goats announced a “fan-friendly parking and commuter plan” on Monday that would add new space in partnership with LAZ Parking, the Hartford Parking Authority, and Propark.

Six lots will now offer $5 Yard Goats parking: 300 Market St., 285 Church St., 1000 Main St., 275 Windsor St., the MAT Garage at 55

Chapel St. South, and the Church Street Garage at 200 Church St.

“We encourage fans to enter the parking lot’s address to their GPS to help expedite their arrival,” Yard Goats General Manager Mike Abramson said in a statement. Maps and additional information can be found at the team’s site, Yardgoatsparking.com. Fans can also pre-pay for parking at the Yard Goats website and via the LAZgo app.

The Yard Goats, the Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, have scheduled opening day for Tuesday, April 9. The debut event includes a planned giveaway of 1,000 commemorative chocolate bars made by Munson’s Chocolates of Bolton.
