Louis Oosthuizen, the 2010 Bri­tish Open cham­pion, led the South African Open by a shot af­ter a 9-un­der 62 in the first round on Thurs­day in Jo­han­nes­burg.

Oosthuizen made a bril­liant start at Rand­burg Golf Club in Jo­han­nes­burg with nine birdies and no bo­geys.

Mau­resmo to coach Pouille: Amelie Mau­resmo won’t be cap­tain­ing France’s Davis Cup team af­ter all be­cause the two-time ma­jor win­ner is go­ing back to coach­ing to help Lu­cas Pouille. The French Ten­nis Fed­er­a­tion an­nounced it was search­ing for a new cap­tain.

US women plan tour: The U.S. women’s soc­cer team fi­nal­ized plans for a 10game “Count­down to the Cup” tour in ad­vance of next year’s World Cup. The team will visit Europe to start the new year, play­ing France and Spain, be­fore play­ing eight matches in the United States from Fe­bru­ary through May.
