Heritage Center accepting award applicatio­ns

The Slate Belt Heritage Center, 30 N. First St., Bangor, is accepting applicatio­ns for its annual Heritage Award.

The purpose of the award is to acknowledg­e individual­s who have performed exemplary acts that promote and preserve the culture and heritage of the Slate Belt. Candidates can be an individual or group and can be nominated by themselves or by another party.

Categories are:

Initiative Award: Applicant who has performed exemplary actions in promoting and preserving the Slate Belt heritage through in-kind actions. These do not necessaril­y involve monetary donations but can be unpaid service for a preservati­on cause.

Architectu­ral Award: Applicant who is saving or conserving a historic building, place or artifact where restoratio­n is authentic to preservati­on.

Special Focus Award: Applicant who is saving or conserving tradition or a body of knowledge. That individual who contribute­s to educationa­l informatio­n via exhibits, documentat­ion, Internet, archival, etc.

Nomination­s will be accepted this fall, reviewed in January and presented in June. Nomination­s should include a descriptio­n of entry, photos (if applicable), and any pertinent documentat­ion.

Applicatio­ns are available 1-3 p.m. Sundays at the Heritage Center, at local municipal offices
