I never thought this would happen

-

Never in my lifetime would I expect that:

Partisan voter suppression would run rampant through dishonest gerrymandering and Jim Crow actions and manipulation.

We would constantly hear statements that are demonstrable lies said to create dissension, mistrust in our institutions and confusion in every area of everyday life.

A president could ignore the deliberate and brutal murder of a U.S. resident by another country.

The people in this country could still chant “Lock her up” in rallies after mass terror and murder was attempted toward our country’s leaders.

Attempted mass murder and terror wouldn’t be fully condemned in the harshest of tones by our president and our bipartisan leaders.

Self-aggrandizement and enrichment have become benchmarks of our country’s leaders.

People would seek public office and act only for their personal power and self-adulation rather than the public service that the work requires.

Our citizens would take every day for granted and negligently not vote.

Whatever happened to integrity, public service, empathy, love of country and working for the public good as qualities to be demanded of our leaders? Does anyone still believe in individual responsibility, community, country and that we are all part of something larger? Doris Clegg
