Mary S. Howell, 68, of Coopersbur­g, PA passed away at Phoebe Richland Health Care Center in Richlandto­wn, PA on October 27, 2018. Mary was born in Allentown to her late parents John J. Spillane, Sr. and Gladys E. (Houck) Spillane. Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 37 years, Glenn A. Howell and her brother John J. Riley-Spillane Jr. and his husband Keith Riley-Spillane along with nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary was preceded in death by her younger sister Kathy Spillane.

Mary graduated from Hellertown-Lower Saucon High School in 1967 and played clarinet in the school band. Mary went on to graduate from Northampto­n Community College earning an Associate's Degree in music and education then went on to Moravian College to continue her studies. After college, Mary was employed by Northampto­n Community College Library, Bethlehem Steel and later served as treasurer for the Southern Lehigh Public Library.

Mary was gifted and talented musician and singer. She played clarinet, hammered dulcimer and mountain dulcimer. Mary sang in the choir, led the children's choir and children's chimes and taught Sunday School at the Coopersbur­g Moravian Church now known as the Morning Star Moravian Church. Mary served as the financial secretary, designed and maintained the original website, sang in the choir and led the children's choir and children's chimes at Emmaus Moravian Church.

Mary sang with the Unitas Chorale and St. John's Sacred Voices and had been active in the Moravian Cursillo Community.Mary was master of many crafts including sewing, crocheting, knitting, basket making and was known for her excellent counted cross stitch.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018, 10:00 A.M. at the Emmaus Moravian Church located at 146 Main Street, Emmaus, PA 18049. A light lunch will follow. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons may be made in Mary's memory to the ALS Associatio­n Greater Philadelph­ia Chapter located 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002.
