Bus slides off road; Moravian students, teacher unhurt

- — Nicole Radzievich

No one was hurt Saturday morning when a van transporting a teacher and 10 Moravian Academy students crashed near Cornell University.

Tracy Keen, acting fire chief at Richford Fire Department, said the van slipped on black ice about 8 a.m. on Route 79, just outside Ithaca, N.Y., where the students were to attend a quiz bowl.

Students from the Bethlehem school were taken to the fire station, where their parents would be picking them up.

“The students are fine. The teacher is fine,” said Stephanie Vasta, director of communications at Moravian Academy. “The real heroes were the fire department who took them in and kept them warm.”
