The Morning Call (Sunday)

Route 611 at Wy-Hit-Tuk Park

WILLIAMS TOWNSHIP

-

Description: A winding, rural two-lane state highway that can be narrow at spots.

Speed limit: 40 mph

When a reader suggested anywhere on Route 611 between Riegelsville and Easton, I couldn’t get out there fast enough. Who wouldn’t want to ditch sitting in a stuffy office to drive on a beautiful country road in peak fall leaf season?

Most of the other drivers I came across Nov. 1 seemed to have the same thought in mind. I saw a lot of motorcyclists heading through, enjoying a crisp autumn afternoon in the country. They were also the chief offenders — most sedans, trucks and vans that passed by were comfortably within the speed limit.

Motorcyclists accounted for four of the nine speeding vehicles and were also the fastest, and that doesn’t count three bikers who whizzed by before I had the speed gun set up. The nine speeding vehicles was kind of high, given the low traffic count compared with Freemansburg Avenue or Route 222.

Road Warrior tip: So long as you’re not running late, take your time on Route 611. Slow down and enjoy the scenery.

?? TOM SHORTELL/THE MORNING CALL ?? Route 611 at Wy-Hit-Tuk Park in Williams Township saw plenty of speeding vehicles, including a number of motorcycles.
