PENN STATE REPORT CARD
OFFENSE: B
Running confidently behind a newly ornery line, Miles Sanders had 159 yards and a TD. Receiver Jahan Dotson (Nazareth) made his first start, at a new position, and looked like a natural. Lions needed to be better in the red zone, though.
DEFENSE: A
After losing its gaps on Jonathan Taylor’s 71-yard TD run (the longest against Penn State this season), the defense bore down to allow just 3 points. Badgers ran for 10 yards in the second quarter. Ends Shareef Miller (2 sacks) and Yetur Gross-Matos (forced fumble) are becoming dominant.
SPECIAL TEAMS: B
Great day for Johnathan Thomas, who recovered a teammate’s fumble on a kickoff return and converted a fake punt for a first down. Kicker Jake Pinegar made three field goals, one from 49 yards, but needs to add air to his kicks. COACHING: B
Both coordinators prepared their sides well against physical units, but some moments were worth questioning. One stood out: Why did Penn State call a play with a running back in motion in the last 2 minutes? That late fumble added needless anxiety.
OVERALL: B
Sturdy win, particularly after last week.
