State to demolish Allentown hospital

The state plans to raze the closed Allentown State Hospital that is costing taxpayers $2.2 million annually to maintain. The General Services Department announced demolition plans Friday for the 28 buildings and other structures on 195.2 acres in east Allentown and west Bethlehem. The facility opened in 1912 and closed in 2010.

What’s next? Demolition is estimated at $15 million.
