Receiving holiday cards in mail is special

-

I just sent Christmas cards to friends and relatives via the old-fashioned postal system — snail mail.

While I could have sent greetings on Facebook, I thought it would be better for my recipients to receive a more tangible greeting that is a keepsake and personal.

The U.S. Postal Service is losing billions of dollars to email, direct deposits and online payments, and while it still delivers packages, the loss of first-class mail has hurt the service greatly.

I am not a postal employee so this is not a partisan issue. I simply appreciate the service of the employees of the Postal Service and want to see it continue and not be privatized.

My suggestion to all during this holiday season is to buy a few cards and a book of stamps and send a thoughtful gift to your family and friends. They will appreciate the card and so will the Postal Service. Charles Kochenash
