Sister Edna Averbeck (formerly Sister M. Eadburgis), Maria Averbeck, 94, a Missionary Sister of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, died on December 13, 2018 at Sacred Heart Villa, Reading, PA

Born in Germany, she was the daughter of the late Klemens and Maria Averbeck.

She entered the Congregati­on in Germany and professed her religious vows on February 3, 1950. She came to the United States on May 15, 1951.

She served in her community in a variety of ministries including, among others, as seamstress, cook, chauffeur, and in packing boxes for overseas missions. Sister ministered at Sacred Heart Home, Coopersbur­g; Villa

St. Elizabeth, Reading, St. John the Baptist Parish, Allentown; St. Michael Parish, Lansford; St. Henry

Parish, Philadelph­ia; MSC Minor Seminary, Geneva, IL; St. John’s, Dayton, OH; and Knights of St. George Home, Wellsburg, WV. She spent many years at St. Michael Convent (now Sacred Heart Villa) with a talent for meeting many needs.

She is survived by the members of her Religious Congregati­on.

She was predecease­d by her brothers Ludwig, Paul, Bernard and Carl and her sisters Lena and Sister M. Clementis, MSC.

A viewing will be held on Monday, December 17 in the chapel of Sacred Heart Villa, 51 Seminary Avenue, Reading, PA from 4-7 PM, followed by a Prayer Service at 7PM.

Following a viewing in the morning a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the chapel of Sacred Heart Villa on Tuesday December 18 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in the convent cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons may be made to the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart at 2811 Moyers Lane., Reading, PA 19605
