Casey should back carbon fee plan
Sen. Casey’s blog for climate change notes that the “EPA’s renewable energy target for Pennsylvania imposes an unequal burden on the Commonwealth relative to other states with much greater renewable energy potential.”
Because Pennsylvania has an unequal burden, it makes great sense for Casey to strongly advocate for the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, introduced Dec. 19 in the Senate. The House version was introduced several weeks ago, and both have bipartisan support and are expected to be reintroduced in 2019.
Casey takes leadership with climate change and food insecurity with other provisions of the newly passed Farm Bill. Those provisions include program funding to help small, diversified farms prevalent in Pennsylvania. Other provisions cover promotion of farmers markets, regional and local food systems as well as value-added producer grants.
Casey supporting the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act and reworking the Farm Bill creates a win-win situation for Pennsylvania and beyond. Sensible sustainable systems give support to food producers and easing food insecurity while stepping down factors of climate change.
Start the New Year right, Sen. Casey, and sponsor the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act. Bipartisan support can make our planet great again.
