Airport Road widening
Allen Township has approved a tremendous amount of warehouse development in the past two years.
The township doesn’t have too many corridors capable of handling that kind of truck traffic, so most of it will be shepherded onto Airport Road. (If the truckers don’t get lost, that is.)
FedEx Ground, with its enormous new hub on Willowbrook Road, and development partner Rockefeller Group have already started improvements to Willowbrook and Race Street.
This year, developers will pay for the creation of an extra lane for southbound traffic on Airport Road.
That should help funnel all those extra trucks — and the cars getting warehouse employees to work — to Route 22 and beyond.
According to Young, the construction side of the project will go out to bid by early summer. The work should be finishing up in August 2020.
Anticipated cost: $5 million
