Constable’s drug joke prompts outcry
A Facebook post that Fred Schoenenberger, an elected state constable in Easton, said he intended as a humorous way to spotlight drug addiction, drew sharp criticism last week from some law enforcement officials and treatment counselors. The post told methamphetamine users that their drugs may be tainted with flu virus and that they could ask police to come to their homes and test their meth. After taking down the post Sunday, Shoenenberger said it had reached more than 63,000 people.
What’s next? “While this intended ‘humor’ may have offended some, it certainly opened some real dialogue about how serious this issue is,” Schoenenberger wrote.
