We should ban guns from municipal buildings

The Morning Call (Sunday) - - TOWN SQUARE - Jeffery Ayers

I have really struggled on whether I should write this letter, but the subject and safety to others are too important not to address the issue.

I am a potential target. I sit on the Moore Township Zoning Hearing Board. I have have held this position for about 10 years, and in this time I can remember three occasions when other board members and I became worried about some type of violence breaking out.

Either the applicant for the variance was not happy with the decision the board made or members of the audience were upset with the decision.

As chairman of the zoning board, I approached the township supervisors about passing an ordinance restricting unauthorized people from bringing guns into the township building. Our township solicitor informed me that as of this moment there is no state law that would uphold such an ordinance.

I called state Reps. Marcia Hahn and Zach Mako and asked them to look into passing a bill to support my position. That was about a month ago. No one has returned my phone call.
