LCCC offers noncredit language courses
Lehigh Carbon Community College is offering eight different language classes this fall through its noncredit division. Classes are held at the main campus, 4525 Education Park Drive, Schnecksville, unless noted otherwise.
EZ Deitsch I, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 12-Nov. 7. Students will be introduced to Pennsylvania Dutch, including both language and culture. Cost is $151, with text and handouts included. A material fee of $5 is payable at registration.
Irish (Gaelic), 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Sept. 4-Dec. 11. Students will learn the sentence structure, grammar, foundation vocabulary and commonly used verbs, as well as develop fluency and a vocabulary to speak, read and write. Cost: $250.
Italian I, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Aug. 21-Oct. 23. Students will acquire useful vocabulary for a working knowledge of the Italian language. Cost: $218; text included.
Italian II, 4-6 p.m. Wednesdays, Aug. 21-Oct. 23. This course is to help students who want to expand and advance their Italian language skills. Students will learn about grammar to increase speaking ability. The Italian I course or comparable experience is required before enrolling. Cost: $218; text included.
Korean I, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 5-Nov. 7. Students will learn the alphabet, grammar, vocabulary, greeting and basic conversation in Korean. Students will learn about the Korean culture, customs, food and history. Cost: $210; handouts provided.
Korean II, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 5-Nov. 7. This course is a higher-level Korean class, which includes language skills, Korean drama, cooking and cultural immersion. Korean I or equivalent is required. Cost: $210.
Spanish I, 6-7:30 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 30-Nov. 25 at LCCC Allentown, 718 Hamilton St. This beginner course is for students who have never had a Spanish class or had some Spanish but have not kept up with it. Cost: $185; text included.
Spanish for Health Care Professionals, 6-9 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 11-Oct. 9 at LCCC Allentown, 718 Hamilton St. This course will help students decrease language barriers using basic grammar and pronunciation. Students will learn everyday words and phrases, medical terminology and common phrases used during health exams. Cost: $185; text included.
