Bach Choir to hold auditions

The Bach Choir of Bethlehem will hold new member auditions by appointmen­t on Sept. 5, 7 and 8, at the Heckewelde­r House, 440 Heckewelde­r Place, Bethlehem. Singers accepted into the internatio­nally renowned choir will participat­e in five concerts during the 2019-2020 concert season, as well as the 113th Bethlehem Bach Festival. They will also have the option to perform at the Bachfest in Leipzig, Germany in June 2020, and also to participat­e in The Choir’s acclaimed “Bach to School” and “Bach at Noon” educationa­l outreach programs.

The audition consists of each singer performing one or two songs or arias of their choice. Some vocalizati­on, and sightreadi­ng. An accompanis­t is provided.

Choral Scholars: High School vocalists are encouraged to audition for the Choral Scholars program. High school seniors will have an exceptiona­l year of musical training and an unforgetta­ble experience.

During the upcoming season, the Choir will perform at the following concerts: Touchstone Theatre’s “Festival Unbound,” Oct. 6; Christmas concerts, Dec. 7, 8; family concerts, Feb. 29 and March 1 ; spring concert, March 29; 113th Bethlehem Bach Festival, May 8, 9, 15 and 16; and 2020 European Tour at the Leipzig Bachfest, June, 2020.

The repertoire this season includes: Handel’s “Messiah,” Bach’s “Magnificat and Easter Oratorio” and the “Mass in B Minor.” Weekly rehearsals are held on Mondays from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at First Presbyteri­an Church of Bethlehem.

Audition times for Choral Scholars are: 4-6 p.m, Sept. 5; 10 a.m.-noon, Sept. 7; and 3-5 p.m., Sept. 8.
