LCCC schedules virtual open house
Lehigh Carbon Community College will offer a series of seven virtual information sessions in May to help prospective students and their families understand the steps to applying and have the opportunity to ask questions in a live format. The sessions will be offered via Zoom May 11-14.
Each of the sessions will focus on a career pathway, but students who are undecided on a major are invited to attend any of the sessions, as general information will be shared at each of them. A question and answer session will follow the presentations made by faculty in the department.
In addition, after each session with the faculty, participants will have an opportunity to speak with a representative from: admissions, adult learners and veterans, academic advising and transfer advising, financial aid, online learning, educational support, English language learners, first year experience program and honors program.
Sessions will be held:
May 11: 2-3 p.m. for liberal arts, general studies, arts, communication and design.
May 12: 10-11 a.m. for business, legal and administrative.
May 12: 2-3 p.m. for computer science and information technology.
May 13: 10-11 a.m. for education, criminal justice, public service, psychology and social work.
May 13: 2-3 p.m. for health care.
May 14: 10-11 a.m. for manufacturing, trades and technology.
May 14: 2-3 p.m. for science, engineering, math and veterinary tech assistant.

Saucon Valley Compost Center to reopen
The Saucon Valley Compost Center, 2011 Springtown Hill Road, Hellertown, will reopen on Monday with the following schedule and regulations:
Hours: 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday.
All visitors must wear a mask or face covering to enter the site. All visitors must stay in their vehicle while waiting in line.
Visitors will need to provide their Saucon Valley Compost Card. If you do not have an ID card, contact your municipality and one will be issued to you. Hellertown Borough, 610-8387041; Lower Saucon Township, 610865-3291.
No commercial vehicles allowed. The number of vehicles allowed to enter the site at any one time will be limited by staff as necessary to maintain social distance rules. All persons entering the site must keep at least 6 feet separation.
Info sought for Weona Park centennial book
A centennial book is being written to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Weona Park in Pen Argyl. Anyone with fond memories or interesting stories should send them to Walt Cole at wrcole3@gmail.com. This would include any information from parents or grandparents. Stories about sporting events, swimming, or any other activities would be of interest. Pictures of family reunions, church gatherings or other organizations having picnics at the park are also being sought. Pictures of the kiddie Ferris wheel, train or cars, the clay tennis courts, the old miniature golf course, the band shell and events at the athletic field would also be welcome.
Celtic Cultural Alliance offers scholarships
The Celtic Cultural Alliance has announced that several scholarships will be awarded this year to students pursuing the study of Celtic dance, music or art.
The mission of Celtic Cultural Alliance is to promote and preserve the Celtic culture of the seven Celtic nations through art, history, dance, music and literature. Application deadline is June 15.
Celtic Cultural Alliance also offers a volunteer scholarship to inspire high school students to volunteer and share their experiences about Celtic Classic while gaining useful knowledge and contributing to the community. This award will be given to one high school student who has volunteered at Celtic Classic Highland Games and Festival for at least one Celtic Classic festival for at least 12 hours. Accelerated EMT classes available at LCCC
Lehigh Carbon Community College offers emergency medical technician training programs for individuals who are likely to respond to pre-hospital emergencies or those considering a medical career.
The Emergency Medicine Institute, 2100 Mack Blvd., Allentown, will offer accelerated EMT Basic class 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 6-31. The fee is $1,225. Text and equipment are extra. Registrations are being accepted.
Acceptance into the EMT program includes the submission of a physician release form and proof of medical insurance.
