Trump a bad example for kids
The return of baseball is a welcome sign of normalcy during the pandemic. Sports can teach cooperation, teamwork and respect.
Now imagine a scenario between two teams, red and blue. Before the season starts, the red coach accuses the blue coach of fixing the game without proof. He accepts stolen information about the blue team from another league and forces the announcer to falsely claim his crowd is bigger. He fires assistant coaches for following the rules and praises ones caught lying to parents. He insults the other team, calling them losers, dopes and scumbags. He urges his players to cheat and to assault the other team. He handpicks umpires who will call plays in his favor.
When a thunderstorm strikes, he denies there even is a storm, and won’t stop the game despite several players being hit by lightning.
Poorer families seeking shelter are locked in a holding area, with children and parents separated. Reporters are banned for describing plays. He trashes the field and doesn’t ready it for next game.
We’d never allow our kids to play for such a coach. But this is essentially what we’ve been enduring under the current administration.
Our kids are watching. Are we?
