Todd looks to finish job at St. Jude
Holds 1-stroke lead going into final round
Brendon Todd shot a 1-under 69 on Saturday at the FedEx St. Jude Invitational to take a onestroke lead into the final round of the World Golf Championship event in Memphis, Tenn.
“The best players in the world treat each final round like it’s just another day, and they just go out there and try to execute and stick to their game and let the results fall as they do.” Todd said.
Todd started the third round with a two-stroke lead. He had five birdies and four bogeys to put him at 13-under 198 on a nearly perfect day at TPC Southwind with the temperature in the 70s.
Byeong Hun An, who had four straight birdies on the back nine, finished with a 66 is second. Rickie Fowler was two strokes back after a 69.
■ Danielle Kang salvaged a 1over 73 to hold a share of the lead with Celine Boutier and Jodi Ewart Shadoff in the LPGA Drive On Championship in Toledo, Ohio. Inverness Club, already a tough test that will host the Solheim Cup next year, was even more of a challenge in wet weather and a little more wind. Only two players, including Sarah Schmelzel, broke 70 . ... Brett Quigley shot an 8-under 64 to take a one-shot lead in the Ally Challenge on the PGA Tour Champions.
Auto racing: Lewis Hamilton set a new track record at the British Grand Prix and clinched a record-extending 91st pole position. He clocked a time of 1 minute 24.303 seconds at the Silverstone circuit where he was won a record six times.
Colleges: Gonzaga G Joel Ayayi is withdrawing his name from the NBA draft and will return for his junior season. Ayayi averaged 10.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists last season.
NFL: Saints QB Drew Brees says he will continue to stand for the American flag but respects and supports any form of peaceful demonstration — including kneeling during the national anthem — by those protesting social injustice and systemic racism . ... Jets LB C.J. Mosley opted out of playing this season because of family health concerns. Mosley, 28, played just two games last year for the Jets while dealing with a groin/core muscle injury . ... Less than a week after T Nate Solder opted out of the season, the Giants gave third-year T Nick Gates a twoyear extension worth at least $6 million. The Giants also signed K Chandler Catanzaro to replace Aldrick Rosas.
Soccer: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang clinched a recordextending 14th FA Cup for Arsenal, scoring twice in a 2-1 win over Chelsea at an empty Wembley Stadium. Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic had become the first American man to score in an FA Cup final.
Tennis: A tennis player entered for the Palermo Ladies Open tested positive for the coronavirus and has withdrawn from the tournament, organizers announced. While noting that the player is asymptomatic, the WTA Tour said in a statement that she will remain in isolation “until cleared by a physician per the established protocols.”
WNBA: New York Liberty rookie Sabrina Ionescu has a Grade 3 left ankle sprain, which usually requires months to fully heal. Ionescu, the top overall pick in the draft, injured her ankle in the second quarter Friday night against the Atlanta Dream.
