Fewer than 900 new virus cases reported

The state Health Department reported 888 new cases of the coronavirus on Saturday.

To date, there have been 112,936 infections statewide since the start of the pandemic.

Deaths

Overall: 15 new deaths, compared to 13 the day before. That brings the total to 7,204.

Senior care: 19,558 long-term care residents have been infected with the virus and 4,906 have died from it.

Hospitalizations

The state reported 522 people hospitalized around noon, with 89 people on ventilators. On Friday, there were 756 hospitalized, with 104 on ventilators.

Testing

There were 15,434 new tests, for a positive test rate of 5.6%, the same as the day before. The overall positive test rate is now at 8.9%.

Lehigh Valley

Cases: 34 new cases (18 in Lehigh County, 16 in Northampton County), compared to 26 the day before. That brings the total to 8,671.

Deaths: one new death, in Lehigh County. That brings the total in Lehigh and Northampton counties to 625 (335 in Lehigh and 290 in Northampton).
