Southern Lehigh School District
Determining that the district would not be able to maintain 6 feet between students if all of them returned, Southern Lehigh gave parents the choice among a hybrid attendance program, and a couple of all-remote programs.
In the hybrid program, students with last names A-L will attend in person Mondays and
Wednesdays, M-Z Tuesdays and Thursdays, and all students will learn remotely Fridays.
Families can also choose between two entirely remote options: SLSD Remote Learning, which consists of both live and self-directed learning facilitated by district teachers; and ELEARN21 Cyber Learning, a self-directed program through the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit.
Wilson Area School District
Wilson Area students and staff will return to the classroom next month, but remote learning will be available for those with health concerns. Students in kindergarten through eighth grade will stay in the same classroom all day, including for lunch. Classroom windows and doors will be kept open as much as possible to increase ventilation. Following state guidelines, masks will be required, but masks cannot have any words, characters or symbols on them. Wilson will provide masks for students upon request.
Whitehall-Coplay School District
Whitehall-Coplay officials want students to return to school full time, although parents will have the option of doing virtual learning for their children. Among the many protocols the district is putting together are turning off water fountains and not allowing playground equipment to be used.
The district asked parents to complete a survey by July 31 about their choice of preference on returning to school for the first marking period.
In a letter posted on its website, Whitehall-Coplay says if it cannot accommodate the number of students wishing to return full time, it will move to a blended model that provides fact-to-face instruction two days a week and online lessons three days.
