Shed fire spreads, displaces resident

- — Andrew Wagaman

An Upper Macungie Township home sustained significant damage early Saturday after a fire that started in a shed spread to the back of a house, according to fire officials.

No residents were hurt in the blaze in the 800 block of Oldt Road, the Fogelsville Volunteer Fire Co. said in a Facebook post. Paramedics evaluated and treated two firefighters with minor injuries at the scene.

The regional chapter of the American Red Cross provided assistance to one displaced resident, a spokesperson said Saturday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the scene at 3:50 a.m., and a second alarm was called shortly thereafter. Flames could be seen from Old Route 22, at least a mile away.

Firefighters had to contend with temperatures in the low teens, which made the roads icy and caused gear to freeze. They brought the fire under control around 6 a.m.

The rear shed was destroyed, and the house was “heavily damaged,” according to Fogelsville Fire Co.

The house was built in 1854, according to county property records.
