2006: Northampton High graduate Brian Schneider signs a four-year, $16 million deal to remain with the Washington Nationals. Schneider, who made $2 million in 2005, will receive $2.7 million and $3.5 million in the first two years of the deal and $4.9 million in 2008 and 2009.
2001: John Steiner’s pin at 160 pounds locks up Freedom’s 3127 wrestling win over Nazareth, the Patriots’ first over the Blue Eagles since 1983.
2001: In a matchup between Pennsylvania’s top two ranked wrestling teams, No. 1 Easton eases past No. 2 Northampton 38-17.
1981: Lehighton names Dave Parsons its football coach, beginning a 20-year run that sees the Indians win 136 games, five league championships and the 1987 District 11 Class 3A title.
