Pennsylvania death toll passes 23,000, cases hit 892,344
The state Department of Health reported 4,088 additional coronavirus cases on Saturday, with 133 deaths bringing the pandemic toll to 23,072.
The seven-day moving average of newly reported cases was 3,820, up 1% from 3,766 a week ago.
To date, there have been 892,344 infections statewide since the start of the pandemic. Deaths
Overall: 113 compared with 99 on Friday.
Senior care: 10 compared with 81 on Friday. That brings the total to 12,000, accounting for 52.0% of the state’s 23,072 deaths.
Hospitalizations
There were 2,452 people hospitalized as of midday Saturday compared with 2,548 Friday. Of those, 271 were on ventilators, and 489 were in ICU beds.
Testing
There were 16,945 test results reported Saturday, with 19.9% of them positive, compared with 28.1% on Friday.
The overall positive test rate is 17% since the state’s first cases were reported March 6.
Statewide percent positivity for the week of Feb. 5—11 was 8%.
To date, 3.7 million people have tested negative.
Lehigh Valley
Cases: 312 additional case reports, with 122 in Lehigh County, 190 in Northampton County. That brings the total to 54,836.
Deaths: Four new deaths (two in Lehigh County, and two in Northampton), compared with eight the day before. That brings the total to 1,343.
Vaccinations
More than 1.3 million people have gotten 1.7 million doses of vaccine either as first or second shots, meaning just under 13% of Pennsylvanians 16 and over are at least partially immunized.
