Brighten up your abode with help from new Nazareth home decor shop

- Ryan Kneller

Sick of staring at the same four walls? How about the same furniture, pillows and lamps?

If your home decor has become stale and a refresh is overdue, a new downtown Nazareth shop can help breathe new life into your abode.

Abode Home Decor, offering rustic and modern home decor and furniture, opened April 2 at 27 E. Belvidere St.

“I really wanted to share my passion for decorating with the Lehigh Valley,” said Krista Lichtenberger, who’s operating Abode with her husband, Brian. “There’s a store that I love down in Oaks, and everytime I walk in there, it gives me peace. And so I thought, ‘I’d really like to open a place like that in Nazareth.’ ”

Krista, who also is a nurse, started the business in spring 2020, selling items online and setting up displays in her Bushkill Township home’s driveway during the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic.

She and her husband discovered the available Nazareth storefront, which previously housed Unicorn Palace

Ceramics, late last year and spent the past few months renovating the space to include new flooring, wall paint, shelving and more.

The couple sources handcrafted items from suppliers throughout the region and country, including wreaths from a Bangor craftswoman, soy candles from a small business in Maine and wooden signs and other wall art from Kentucky and Wisconsin tradesmen.

Customers can order custom Amish-made furniture, including coffee tables and dining room sets, and they also can shop other functional pieces like flower pots, tableware, soap dispensers, wax melts and throw and floor pillows.

Many items feature funny and quirky sayings, including coasters that read “I’m having people over to stare at their phones later, if you want to come by,” and hand towels that read “Five stars. Would poop here again!”

“Our goal is to offer home decor that is fun, different and affordable so that people will choose to support us over a larger chain,” Krista said. “We also will be constantly changing our inventory, including several seasonal and holiday pieces.”

Abode Home Decor, which will host a grand opening cele

bration with the Nazareth Area Chamber of Commerce at 5:30 p.m. April 29, is open 5-9 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Info: 610-365-5011; abodehomedecor. com.
