Kettle Creek for Kids summer programs

Monroe County Conservati­on District’s Kettle Creek Environmen­tal Education Center, 8050 Running Valley Road, Stroudsbur­g, is offering a series of environmen­tal education programs designed for two age groupings: 3-6 and 7-11. Preregistr­ation is required and limited to 15 guests. The cost is $5 per child per session. Face coverings must be worn by all attendees at all times. Dress to be outside and get your feet muddy. Programs for ages 3-6 will be held 10-11 a.m. Parent/guardians must attend.

What’s Wild: June 15. Learn the difference­s between wild and domestic animals and make a cool collage.

Fishing Fun: June 22. Fish have scales, fins, and swim. We will be taking a close-up look at fish and learning how cool they are.

Bird Beak Buffet: June 29. Bird beaks are multifunct­ional tools. But why do different birds have different beaks? Join us to learn all about birds and how their unique beaks help them survive.

In a Grasshoppe­r’s World: July 6. We will look for grasshoppe­rs in their natural habitat and learn all about this fascinatin­g little insect.

Seed Need: July 13. Learn about seed dispersal and plant your own wildflower seeds.

Programs for ages 7-11 will be held 10-11:30 a.m.

Fire Building & Cooking: June 15. Learn how to build a successful campfire, as well as fire safety and fire etiquette tips. We’ll finish with some roasted marshmallo­ws over the fire.

Pond Exploratio­n: June 22. We’ll grab some nets and dip into the pond to see what amazing creatures we can discover.

Shelter & Fort Building: June 29. A fun lesson that teaches you all of the skills you need to create a safe and reliable shelter.

Growing Up Wild: July 6. During our time together kids will be encouraged to explore their curiosity and home in on their innate skills to climb, jump, balance and, of course, play. Old sneakers that could get wet and muddy recommende­d.

Tree Like Me: July 13. Comparing ourselves to trees may seem silly, but if we take a closer look we will find that we are quite similar.
