February community programs at Jacobsburg
Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center, 400 Belfast Road, Bushkill Township, is offering the following community programs:
StoryWalk: Every day in February from sunrise to sunset enjoy a stroll starting at the pavilion across the road from the visitor center. Proceed to follow the story down the path to read Over and Under the Snow, an informative and exciting story about wildlife in winter.
Project FeederWatch Monitoring: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 3 and 4. You must have already participated in Birds and Bagels - Citizen Science and Monitor Training to register for this volunteer opportunity. Volunteer as a citizen scientist to observe and record bird observations at Jacobsburg’s feeders.
Fly Tying Series for Teens: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 2, 16, March 2 and 16, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 26. Learn about freshwater communities while gaining new skills in tying their own flies. For ages: 12-18.
The Henrys of Boulton (and Elsewhere): 10:30-11:30 a.m. Feb. 12. Join Dr. Scott Paul Gordon for this presentation of his research into the Henry family.
Advanced Watershed Education Chemistry-Only Teacher Workshop: 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 19. This workshop will focus on the chemical water quality sampling component of the curriculum. Educators attending this workshop will receive the chemistry portion of the Bureau of State Parks Watershed Education curriculum and their own water quality test kit. Cost is $10. Participants will receive three hours of Act 48 credit.
Great Backyard Bird Count: 1:30-3:30 p.m. Feb. 19. Participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count with a bird walk in the fields and forests of Jacobsburg. Tips on bird identification will be included.
Guest Speaker: The “chick-a-dee” Call and Hybridization, 7-8 p.m. Feb. 25. Guest speaker, Joan Spinelli, a doctoral student from Lehigh University will talk about her research on how the hybridization affects individual and flocking vocalizations.
History of Henrys Woods Hike: 9:30-11:30 a.m. or 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 26.
One Year on the Head of a Deer: 2-3:30 p.m. Feb. 26.
