William Rocco (Mazzocchetti) Mayo
William Rocco (Mazzocchetti) Mayo, 100, of Trexlertown peacefully left the farm and flew west just after sunset on
January 23, 2022, under the extremely capable care of LVHN Hospice.
Born on February 3, 1921, Bill was the son of the late Rocco and Lena (Albuino) Mazzocchetti. After graduating from Allentown High School, Bill honorably served his country January
1941 thru December 1945. He became a Naval Aviator and after WWII remained in the US Naval Reserves 1949-1969, retiring as a LCDR at Willow Grove Naval Air Station, VGF-933, which was awarded the Noel Davis Trophy for Best Fighter Squadron 1953 and 1954. Bill served as Executive Officer at Willow Grove NAS 1957 and 1958.
Bill is survived by his wife Patricia A. (Harned) (Eugster) and his four children: Kathleen, wife of LTC Louis E. Hoffman (Ret); Lori, wife of Richard J. Adams; William
A., husband of LaDonna (Valkos) and Michael A.; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He is also survived by stepsons Robert A. Eugster, husband of Susan (Powers) and Christopher L. Eugster, husband of Colleen (McGunnigle) and four step-grandchildren. In addition, sister Edith Long, brother Theodore T. and wife Sylvia, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Henry J. and wife Janet; Rudolph and wife Miriam, and sister Marjory M. and husband Nicholas F. Callum, and Edith’s husband Joseph B. Long.
A well-known area businessman, Bill founded and served as President of Mayo Motors Lincoln-Mercury Dealership in Trexlertown 1953-1998. He also founded and managed Red Maples and Mayo Homes Company, two manufactured home communities. In the 1980’s he founded and had since served as broker/manager of 1-A Realty, Inc., along with several other business ventures. He was president of the Navy League of the L.V., Nat’l Pres. of the Combat Pilots Asso. 1982-1986, member of the Board of Directors of the Delaware Valley
Historical Aircraft Asso., Commander of the Honorary First Defenders L.V., Supervisor for Lower Macungie Twp. 1996-2002 & 2002-2004; Governor of the pilots’ Quiet Birdmen-ABE Hangar, and an active member of the Lehigh Country Club and numerous military organizations.
Affectionately known as “Will”, he enjoyed many years of flying his Cessna 337 Skymaster hangered at LVIA. Fiercely patriotic, Bill was a tough negotiator, a planter of trees, and loved working on his farm.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bachman, Kulik, and Reinsmith Funeral Homes, Allentown. Due to the pandemic, services will be private. www.BKRFH.com
