Suit vs. Remington uncalled for

-

The shooting at Sandy Hook was indeed a tragic event, but the lawsuit against Remington is totally uncalled for.

Adam Lanza, the gunman, was a 20-year-old mentally ill man who stole the rifle from his mother, killing her in the process. Without Lanza, the rifle would still be inactive.

Maybe the shooter’s relatives should be sued for producing a murderer? In the same issue of The Morning Call, there was an article about a hit-and-run being investigated by Allentown Police. The hit-and-run was a fatality, and the vehicle in question is an Acura, so it makes sense to me to sue the manufacturer of that vehicle.

If a smoker dies of lung cancer, the tobacco industry should pay dearly. If a person is bludgeoned to death using a baseball bat, the manufacturer of the bat should be sued.

Shall I go on? I didn’t think so.
