Richard D. Krauss,

77, of Emmaus, died on Thursday, March

24, 2022 at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Twp. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Arthur D. and Mae A (Stortz) Krauss. He was a member of Emmaus Moravian Church and was a graduate of Emmaus High School, Class of 1963. Rich was employed by the Borough of Emmaus for 37 years, retiring in 2008 as the lead water operator. He was an U.S. Naval Veteran and was an active member of the Emmaus Veterans Committee.

In his younger years, Dick was very active with the Emmaus Fire Department and

Fire Police. This led him to own and operate his own business, the Keystone Fire Equipment. For a season Dick collected vintage train sets and built elaborate scenery in the basement on Third Street. Dick also enjoyed reading history and mystery novels.

Dick was hired as a crossing guard at the

Lincoln Elementary School. This gave him a sense of purpose and community late in his life. In 2011, The Emmaus Patch did a great interview with “Mr. Dick” about his responsibi­lities as a the crossing guard at Third and Elm.

Survivors: Sons, Kevin D. Krauss and Rev. Kerry Krauss; Sister, Rev. Margaret Hassler; Brother, Donald Krauss; and 4 Grandchild­ren. He was preceded in death by a Sister, Carolyn Hutter. Services: A viewing will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 225 Elm Street, Emmaus, PA. A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Moravian Cemetery, Emmaus.
