IronPigs and WooSox split doublehead­er

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (4-6) and Worcester Red Sox (8-2) split Friday evening’s doublehead­er at Polar Park. The IronPigs won game one 7-3, while the WooSox won game two, 7-5.

Game 1

Jeter Downs gave Worcester a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as he homered against Ricardo Sanchez. Ryan Fitzgerald extended the lead for Worcester to 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning when he hit an RBI single against Sanchez. Worcester took a 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning as Fitzgerald hit an RBI triple against Jake Newberry.

The ‘Pigs tagged Josh Winckowski for two runs in the top of the fifth inning as Dalton Guthrie hit a two-run single to score John Andreoli and Drew Maggi. Lehigh Valley took a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth inning as Nick Maton hit a two-run home run against Durbin Feltman (0-1). The home run was Maton’s second of the series.

Feltman gave up three runs in the top of the seventh inning as the ‘Pigs took a 7-3 lead. Ronald Torreyes hit an RBI single that was followed by Guthrie’s RBI double. Guthrie then scored on a wild pitch. Tyler Cyr (2-0) earned his second win of the season as he pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Game 2

Hans Crouse (0-2) recorded just two outs in the bottom of the first inning before he was removed from the game as he allowed four runs. Rob Refsnyder hit a sacrifice fly that scored Jeter Downs and Ronaldo Hernandez hit a three-run double. Joe Gatto served up a two-run home run as Worcester took a 6-0 lead.

Lehigh Valley scored a run in the top of the second inning as Yairo Munoz hit an RBI single against Brian Keller before Worcester took a 7-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning Franchy Cordero hit an RBI double against Gatto that scored

Refsnyder.

The Pigs scored two runs against Zack Kelly in the top of the fifth inning and two runs against Kaleb Ort in the top of the seventh inning.

Jonathan Hennigan pitched three scoreless innings where he struck out four batters. Dillon Maples pitched a scoreless inning of relief following Hennigan. Eduard Bazardo (2-0) earned the win for Worcester.

The IronPigs and WooSox play on Saturday afternoon at Polar Park. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
