Chestnut Ridge is Now Underway in Emmaus!

-

Demolition is now taking place at Chestnut Ridge at Rodale, a new 60+ community cultivated by Phoebe in Emmaus. Chestnut Ridge is being built on the grounds of the former Rodale corporate campus and will

boast countless amenities for an active adult lifestyle.

In addition to an indoor pool, fitness center, and community space to hold events, residents will also be able to partake in group activities and outings around Emmaus and the Lehigh Valley. Residents are expected to

begin moving in during the summer of 2023.

Living the Lifestyle

With beautiful South Mountain at their doorstep, residents can open the curtains to a private balcony and view the blooming flowers in the courtyard. Before meeting friends for coffee, stop at the fitness studio to join a group class. In the afternoon, take a leisurely bike ride on one of the many paths throughout the 38-acre campus. Later, enjoy dinner at the Pub and a concert on the lawn.

This is just an example of the day-to-day lifestyle that Chestnut Ridge will promote for all residents. By encouraging seniors to stay active, pursue hobbies, and take up new ones, residents can find fulfillment and thrive during their retirement years. Chestnut Ridge wants independent living residents to focus on

becoming their most healthy and vital selves while living a worry- and stress-free lifestyle.

From the moment someone decides to make Chestnut Ridge their home, they can begin living the Chestnut Ridge lifestyle—even though the campus itself is still in progress. Monthly book clubs, chef demonstrations and food tastings, community activities, and meditation workshops are just a sampling of the events that are taking place for soon-to-be residents.

Karen Sinkovits, Lifestyle Specialist at Chestnut Ridge, says that these events “help residents explore their

community and learn more about the lifestyle here. We have concerts on the lawn, walking clubs, monthly bingo, pinochle, and mahjongg—something for everyone.” Not only do these events help residents explore the surrounding communities, but they also get to mingle with future neighbors and begin forming friendships.

By being a member of The Chestnut Club—that is, by joining now as a founding member of Chestnut Ridge—a resident can already participate in as many or as few of these events as they would like, among other special perks and rewards. Chestnut Ridge has partnered with many local businesses, encouraging

residents to take advantage of all that Emmaus has to offer. The Chestnut Club provides discounts at Emmaus and Lehigh Valley merchants, restaurants, and fitness studios.

Staying Active

Chestnut Ridge focuses on holistic wellness, and while that does include physical well-being, it also

comprises emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual, occupational, financial, and environmental aspects of life. A community wellness coordinator assists residents with living their best lives and helps ensure positive well-being is achieved.

Future resident Sande Shields has participated in activities coordinated by Chestnut Ridge over the past year. “Karen (Sinkovits) has put together a list of fun things to do! I’ve never done Zumba before, and there’s a book club, walks at Trexler Park, and even painting.”

Shields, a retired physical therapist, understands the importance of staying physically active. She often takes walks with her dog. “We did a hike on South Mountain, and everyone had different abilities. But we stuck together, and we all made it. It really helps to foster and grow our community. I’ve made a couple of friends now who I look forward to seeing at events, too,” Shields adds.

Chestnut Ridge recently held an 8-week wellness series that included healthy discussions around spirituality, meditation, and healthy eating. There are regular opportunities to attend fitness classes like chair yoga, Qigong, and Zumba each month.

Sinkovits also says that the Chestnut Ridge team focuses “on social wellness. Activities such as coffee and conversation or a happy hour help residents create relationships and stay mentally fit, which is just as

important as being physically fit.”

The “Ridge Readers” Book Club meets monthly. Residents suggest books for the club, and they come together to discuss each new novel and build friendships along the way. Food for the brain and the heart!

At the end of March, a group of 14 future residents enjoyed a Ukrainian Pysanky Egg Workshop, where they learned the ancient art of decorating chicken eggs with wax and dyes. It was a new and exciting experience for most of the participants. It was also a great opportunity to socialize with future neighbors, finding

something in common with others who enjoy tackling creative projects.

Continuing Care

A resident at Chestnut Ridge enjoys an independent lifestyle and takes comfort in knowing that Phoebe Ministries will be by their side to help them transition to a higher level of care if needed. Residents have access to Phoebe’s services, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. They can even stay at one of Phoebe’s short-term rehabilitation communities if recovery is needed after surgery or an injury.

To become a resident of a Phoebe independent living community, there is an entrance fee and a monthly fee. These fees allow a resident to live in an independent living community until a higher level of care is needed. Fees for Chestnut Ridge vary based on the type of living accommodations and refundability selected. Different contract types are available for residents to select, allowing them the flexibility to choose

what works best for their lifestyle.

Our special pre-construction pricing is ending soon, as the project is already underway! Save the most by depositing NOW on your future home! To learn more about Chestnut Ridge at Rodale, or any of Phoebe’s active continuing care retirement communities, visit phoebe.org or call 610-435-9037.
