Marilyn married William C. (Bill) Newhard in 1951 and began a very interesting and exciting life together. Bills various hobbies settled on growing iris. Marilyn and Bill opened Palette Gardens in Coopersburg, one of the largest iris gardens east of the Mississippi. They grew the business to include exotic plants and started residential landscaping. During this period Marilyn and Bill traveled the world over, returning home with stories of their exploits, from riding elephants to surviving an earthquake in Guatemala.

In 1994, after both retired, Marilyn and Bill decided to head for warmer weather and settled at Stone Crest Summerfield Fl. Bill continued his love for growing flowers and had an amazing day lily garden. Marilyn occupied herself with playing cards and she would not possibly miss a bingo night. As Stone Crest started to grow, Marilyn organized a women's luncheon group. She continued with her past time activities until health issues caused her to move to Timber Ridge Nursing Home Ocala in 2018. While there, she continued with her love for bingo and playing cards. Her family is grateful for the love and care of the staff for helping make her life as enjoyable as possible.
