Stephen Vlattas of Whitehall, PA passed away August 18th at the age of 91 in

Saint Luke’s Hospital, Allentown. His spouse and 4 children were with him in his final weeks. Stephen was born in Pottstown, PA on November 3, 1930 to parents Zannis and Angeliki Vlattas who emigrated from Chios, Greece. Returning to Greece in 1938 with his mother and brother Tom, events of WW2 delayed their return until 1945 living in Chios, Greece and throughout Africa.

He graduated from Pottstown High School. A Korean War Veteran, he served in the Air Force from 1951-1955 with one year at Kimpo Airfield, Korea. After Korea he attended Penn State University. Steve then worked at Ingersoll Rand for 2 years and Mack Trucks for 30 years in the Engineerin­g Division as a Associate Engineer. He was an active member and union steward of the UAW Local #677 as well as a lifelong member and president of the Order of AHEPA, Allentown Chapter 60. He enjoyed his 32 retirement years traveling with his wife to visit his children and grandchild­ren. Stephen is survived by his wife of 64 years

Tessie (Karapelou), daughters Martha (Paul) Ziegenfuss, Stephanie (David) Franklin, sons,

Dr. John (Anne) Vlattas and Tom ( Lynda) Vlattas as well as eight grandchild­ren and five great grandchild­ren. He loved and was loved by all his family.

Viewing hours will be held on Friday, August 26th at 11 a.m. at Saint Nicholas Greek

Orthodox Cathedral,1607 W. Union Blvd. Bethlehem followed by a service at 12 noon.
