Household hazardous waste collection event

-

The Northampton County Department of Public Works will hold a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 1 at Northampton Community College, 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem Township. The event will be held rain or shine. This event is for Northampton County residents only and online preregistration is required. A confirmation ticket must be presented at check-in and identification/proof of residency must match the address on the registration. There is a limit of 20 gallons or 60 pounds of solid waste per vehicle. Because appointments are limited, residents are asked to consider bringing items for family, friends and neighbors.

The registration link will be available on northamptoncounty.org at 8 a.m. Sept. 1 through Sept. 26. Time slots will be in 15 minute increments.

County residents will have the opportunity to sign up for one appointment per household. Signups will be first come, first served. Upon successfully registering, an email confirmation with a printable ticket will be issued. You must arrive within the scheduled timeframe, not before or after. If you need to change your confirmed time, you must delete or cancel your appointment on Eventbrite and reregister. There is no guarantee that an appointment will still be available if you cancel. Those who show up without an appointment will be turned away.

This is a no-contact event which means drivers must remain inside their vehicles upon arrival. Material must be accessible from the trunk, cargo area or bed of a truck. Event staff will remove all items from those locations.

Acceptable materials include paint products, automotive fluids, outdoor products: pesticides, herbicides, driveway sealers, pool chemicals, etc. and household products: lead acid car batteries, and rechargeable, lithium or button type household batteries, fire extinguishers, flammables, adhesives, aerosols, etc.

Unacceptable materials include electronics, appliances, Freon, scrap metal, explosives, ammunition, radioactive waste, fireworks, smoke/carbon monoxide protectors, medical waste, sharps, latex paint, alkaline batteries, gas cylinders and helium tanks. A full list of unacceptable materials can be found on the county’s Household Hazardous Waste webpage.

If you are unable to attend this event, you can visit the county’s website for information on special waste disposal.
