Pinebrook offers support group for grandparents
Pinebrook Family Answers Grandparents Group support program begins Sept. 1 and runs through Nov.
17. Classes are at 1 p.m., open to the community, virtual or in person. The 12-week program provides support and resources for grandparents, noncustodial caregivers and guardians who are raising children.
Topics include: understanding the new role both challenges and rewards; understanding the legal system in reference to caring for grandchildren; promoting personal well-being, selfcare, and understanding emotions; refining parenting skills, understanding child-developmental stages and positive discipline; building relationships through effective communication skills, intrapersonal connections, and conflict resolution; working with school and community — how to navigate the school systems and accessing community resources; and money management.
In addition to the educational information provided, the goal of the group is to provide opportunities for members to connect with each other, lessen feelings of isolation and create a community that can extend beyond the group setting. The meetings are run in English with one facilitator who is Spanish speaking.
