Bilingual Volunteers Needed. The American Red Cross is seeking bilingual volunteers to serve in the Allentown and Lehigh Valley community in a variety of ways including — recruit other bilingual volunteers, translatio­n assistance, respond to local emergencie­s such as home fires and floods to provide comfort items and financial assistance, and assist with casework for families and children who’ve experience­d an emergency. Serve on one of three subcommitt­ees — Quality, Affordable Housing; Vibrant Economic Climate; Regional Cooperatio­n and Community Engagement. Slate Belt Rising, a subsidiary of Community Action Lehigh Valley, is a community revitaliza­tion initiative serving the boroughs of Bangor, Pen Argyl, Portland, and Wind Gap. In the coming months, the organizati­on will begin implementa­tion for projects in a new six-year community plan. Minimum age 18 or 16 with adult. The Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor seeks friendly, enthusiast­ic volunteers to serve as community outreach volunteers by attending community events such as the Celtic Classic in downtown Bethlehem or Beltzville State Park’s Annual Fall Festival to help communicat­e the mission of the DLNHC and help spotlight the treasures of the D&L Trail and the Corridor region. For community members and students who wish to give back, who want to make a difference in other people’s lives, Lehigh Valley Health Network has numerous volunteer opportunit­ies available throughout the Lehigh Valley. The network is seeking energetic and caring individual­s to provide support to staff and patients, offer wayfinding assistance to guests, help in the gift shops, and offer clerical support. Do you like to play checkers? If so, Phoebe Allentown has an opportunit­y for you. They have residents who need a checkers partner. You don’t need to be an expert, just enjoy hanging out with a resident, chatting, and playing checkers. Shifts available 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. TB testing, background check, and proof of COVID vaccinatio­ns required. Masking and shielding requiremen­ts change with the county COVID infection rate.
